A Birthday Surprise
Melissa yawned loudly as she sat up in bed and stretched. The 19-year old…no make that 20-year old college coed grinned to herself. Today was her birthday! She couldn't wait to find out what Samantha had planned for her special day.
Speaking of Samantha… Melissa thought to herself. As she got up and walked to the apartment's small kitchen, there was no sign of her roommate. There was a note on the table, though. "Gone out to take care of a few things. See you later this afternoon, birthday girl! Samantha. ; ) "

The Ballad of Nocturne
Justice is a interesting concept, for though most my seem it as something absolute, the truth is that it can be molded by perception. Some seek justice through altruism while others seek it through chaos. The question at the end however is, who in reality is right? Such was the struggle between Nocturne and The Ebony Heart.
The two sought to bring justice into their world through different means. While Nocturne took a more venerable approach, The Ebony Heart sought to take a more drastic, ruthless method. This would eventually lead them to a bitter confrontation that would shape the meaning of justice for them once and for all.

For the next couple of years, ‘Arc-en-ciel’ continued to work together to scavenge and survive on their own, using the skills they developed and taught each other to their advantage. Everyone had their specialties: Sofia was the brains and was knowledgeable and well-organized, Deirdre was a fierce combatant, Reyna was street-smart and was an expert in stealth and deception, Rineke came to exhibit expert marksmanship with projectile weapons (such as with a slingshot that the group managed to get for her to play with), and Arcène was well-rounded and showcased great leadership as well. However, despite their skillsets, the family still had to consistently stay on the move; it was not safe to remain in one place for too long. That was a really nice opening few paragraphs. They really set the scene.
It was good to see Sophie growing in this chapter. I thought some psychological aspects of her relationship with Ocelot were a little indulgent and on the nose, but they make more sense now that they've culminated in something.
There's still one entry to go, but I get the feeling Seacouver will not quite be the same after this chapter.
